C1Public Policy
Too Many People are Going Outside
Although American outdoor recreation is experiencing record visitor numbers and economic growth, overcrowding at a small fraction of popular national parks and social media hotspots is straining local infrastructure, environment, and rescue services. Digital platforms have made outdoor spaces more accessible and viral, removing traditional experience barriers and creating safety concerns among unprepared visitors. As a result, land managers are increasingly forced to implement reservation systems and access restrictions, sparking a debate on how to balance environmental conservation and public safety with the personal and health benefits of equal access to nature.
B2Historical Analysis
200 dropped wallets- the 20 MOST and LEAST HONEST cities
In a social experiment testing honesty across North America, 200 wallets containing money and personal items were dropped in 20 different cities. Two-thirds of the wallets were returned, with 96% of those still containing the money. The experiment revealed that age, gender, income level, and religiosity had no significant impact on whether a wallet was returned, though small towns had slightly higher return rates than big cities. Overall, the findings demonstrate that a clear majority of people from diverse backgrounds act honestly without expecting a reward.
